I have succesfully bred kakariki and cockatiels in the same aviary. How big is your avairy? My mixed avairies have been at least 3m by 2m by 2m.
I kept five young kakariki (four months old) together with a Sun Conure, Jenday and two Gold Caps for a couple of weeks. The aviary was 5m by 2m by 2m. The kakarik were strong fliers whilst the Conures had all been hand reared pets (confined to small cage indoors with clipped wings) and were not great fliers. The Conures manged to bite one of the kakariki's legs and the bird has never fully recovered and now perches on one leg.
Do not mix any birds with conures as conures like to play rough and will injure other birds badly.
I keep hearing rossellas love birds and red rumps dont get on, I have 4 rossellas 2 red rumps and quite a few lovebirds in the same avairy with cockatiels ,Quail , and 2 kakarikis, also 2 canaries that live in the house go out in the yard to hang about with the others, I will take a few pics and post them very soon. I will be getting two ring necks to join the others ,I do give them alot of time and supervision ,so far they seem to not mind being near each other , Infact i have love bird chicks and also cockatiel chicks,
The red rumps are nesting and have eggs .

is it an 'open' avairy?
Im asking, beacuse we are building another house and machine workshop, ther is a large 'space' between them I have my eye on, and have been thinking along these lines _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'
MY back yard door opens and I am in the avairy I put a roof on my yard. The flight is about 11 ft long 10 ft wide and 12 to 13 ft high In the flight .I also have a small wall about 2 foot high and 11 ft long in a b shape filled with soil, so they can forage ,with the other part floor tiles . The canaries have been living with us for about 3 months now .
I was worried about introducing them in the same flight at first ,so i put them in a cage for a while, till the other birds had a good look at them and got used to seeing them around .Then I let them out .I was a little worred that they might not take to them so I was not leaving them out when I was not around.
But after I went to the parrot club and seen most of the avaries with a mixture of bird types, I stopped worrying . I leave my back yard door open at all times when the canaries are out they tend to always fly back to their cage every few mins, I found the rosellas love birds and red rumps to be territorial they all have a bit of territory near the nest they are nesting in.other than that they are fine

That is the size of yor yard!?
What is the disrance from nesting boxes that the terrorities encompass? _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'
I have a few nest boxes for love birds in one corner. the red rumps and love birds share that corner , they protect the nest box they only get protective if another bird goes on that box. the distance for that clutch of boxes is about 6 inches from box to box some higher some lower most boxes are used ,they like to occupy a couple of boxes till they find the box they really like then abandon the alternative box , the cockatiels are on the other corner where i have 3 boxes at different levels a pair of cockatiels have the highest box, other boxes are not used but cockatiels go in and out of them the rosellas have a box on the other corner I am putting up more boxes as i go along ,the kakarikis have boxes on another corner where i have the soil patch , i put the boxes up a bit lower ,cause i was reading that kakarikis tend to push out the chicks and sometimes they fall and can get injured ,so I thought lower and softer ground ,as I said earlier Steptoe I am a beginner, Im learning so I am still finding every day a new adventure studying thier behaviour Its fasinating
Today Smartie our male kak wanted to have a bath while he was washing himself two rosellas came down to join in ,He didnt like that much and went to another bath the female rosella was curious and went to the other bath , smartie washed himself got out started walking got behind her (She is at this time dipping her face in the water) kicked her and flew off that was funny . I was quite stunned
hiya
i keep a breeding pair of cockatiels and a breeding pair of red rumps and a breeding pair of kakarikis and a breeding pair of budgies and 9 random java sparrows in my avairy and i dont have a problem
they are all sitting on eggs now and enjoying the sun
ok yes my kakarikis have a few words to say when the red rumps go too near there nests but overall i have no problem
they all seem happy and content
i have a 9ft by 4 ft by 6ft flight and a 5ft housing
the red rumps have got nesting box inside housing and the others have all nested outside in the nest boxes they are roughly 4ft apart
but they all happy
These posts made for a real interesting read..Firstly \i was thinking to not breeding but considering another mix with my well acquainted Kakariki..but as my flight seems fairly big It would NOT seem so impossible then from these posts to breed in a community aviary instead...(Pabloc would be plsd :D)
P.S anyone got a beautiful Male in uk???? could swap for female if wish...
